Question:

I am going through the conditions for coverage of pre-existing conditions. The wording on this website seems to be different from the wording in the contract of the Patriot America policy. 1. On this site (https://www.insubuy.com/visitor-medical-insurance-pre-existing-conditions/) : Quote "For IMG products, pre-existing conditions in last 3 years are NOT covered". 2. In the contract (https://www.insubuy.com/patriot-america-plus/visitors-health-insurance.pdf) - "the Pre-Existing condition must have been stabilized for at least 30 days before the Effective Date"If the Applicant had a condition that first manifested 1 year ago, will an acute onset of the condition be covered under this policy?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting Insubuy. In the policy certificate wording, the information we list on that page is also present under the definition of a pre-existing condition which is listed on page 31. It mentions that any condition or ailment that existed at the time of application or at anytime during the 3 years prior to the effective date are not covered under the policy. This is the definition of a pre-existing condition

What you have mentioned under point 2 is in regards to the acute onset of pre-existing condition coverage. An acute onset of a pre-existing condition is generally defined as a sudden unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing condition that occurs suddenly, without any advance warning, is rapidly progressive, and needs immediate medical treatment within 24 hours. In the certificate wording on page 17 it list the conditions and restrictions for this coverage, and on point (f) it's mentions "the pre-existing condition must have been stabilized for at least 30 days prior to the effective date without change in treatment". So one of the conditions of a medical situation meeting that acute onset definition is that the person must be stable at least 30 days before the policy starts.
